In this seventh volume of The Illus­trated Flora of Illinois series, the first to be devoted to the dicotyledonous plants, Robert H. Mohlenbrock in­cludes four orders and thirteen families of plants. The orders covered in this work are the Theales, Ebenales, Primu­lales, and Cistales. Families described are the Aquifoliaceae, Hypericaceae, Elatinaceae, Ericaceae, Ebenaceae, Sa­potaceae, Styracaceae, Primulaceae, Vi­olaceae, Cistaceae, Passifloraceae, Cu­curbitaceae, and Loasaceae. In all, 46 genera and 130 species are discussed.   Each species is illustrated, showing the habit as well as some of the distin­guishing features in detail. A descrip­tion, while not necessarily intended to be complete, covers the more important features of each species.   Because of the unique breadth of scope coupled with the easy-to-use yet scientifically exacting organization of the individual volumes in the series, The Illustrated Flora of Illinois has found ready acceptance among profes­sionals and others interested in Illinois flora.
