"With EAT, Dr. Ian Smith has created a diet book in the flexible spirit of Mireille Guiliano's French Women Don't Get Fat or Michael Pollan's The Food Rules: it doesn't dictate quantities, portion sizes or verboten foods. Instead, it intelligently and persuasively lays out the ten simple rules anyone can internalize and follow in any situation for stress-free weight loss and lifetime maintenance. Dr. Ian's rules are straight-forward and simple: once a reader understands why whole wheat bread is almost nutrition-free, but whole grain bread is a magic food; why soda--both regular and diet--can sabotage any diet; why "diet" food may be having a distinctly non-dietetic effect, EAT will become their bible. Fans everywhere will ask each other: "You look thinner--are you doing EAT?" Dr. Ian's Ten Simple Rules for Good Eating: - Choose Color - Go Organic Only Selectively - What's the Natural State? - Size Matters - Gorge at the Protein Bonanza - Tap the Power of Awesome Carbs - Taste Matters - Sharpen Your X-Ray Eye for Hidden Calories - Whole Grains All the Time - Drink Smart (Don't Let Liquids Wash Out Your Good Eating)"--… (mehr)

Most of us know we don't always eat right. However, the prevalence of extreme diets proves we don't always know what we should be eating, and why. Dr. Ian Smith explains the how, what and why of a healthier lifestyle.

Most of our dietary problems come from processed foods and fast foods. These have a tendency to add excessive amounts of salt and sugar to the diet. Smith illustrates how foods we think of as healthy, such as fat-free yogurt, are not so much.

The audiobook comes with a PDF of resources to consult in crafting a better, more nutrient-rich diet. The key to Smith's dietary suggestions is that ever food you eat should, by and large, serve a purpose. A snack is not a meal, it's a bridge between meals, and calories should be curtailed accordingly. A proper balance of carbs, protein and fats will help you eat less...if you choose the right sources. `

While my diet has been okay, it can certainly be better. After reading this book over the weekend, I inspected the yogurt labels and sure enough, every one of the flavored yogurts exceeded the sugar level dictated by my type-2 diabetes. I settled for plain yogurt, and some fresh strawberries. The sugar content should be 50% less than the fruit-added varieties. ( )
