The complexities of human hair are very deeply dissected in this book on hair. It shows an informal timeline, each page progressing a bit more through time. It includes a brief extension in the end with more interesting facts about hair. It is truly a fascinating book about hair and how it affects culture and defines certain groups of people. This is a fantastic and quirky look at the history of hair about which there is not much available for the children's non-fiction section. Starting from an African prehistory with monkey's sitting under hairdryers, and a Marilyn Monro lookalike cavewoman this is not an entirely accurate story! The Nigerians are covered, as are the Eyptians with their false beards, the Mayans, Indians, Irish, Scottish, Greeks, Romans and England's Queen Elizabeth. The book travels through Iraq, Japan, France, Peru, the United States, Venice, China, Vienna and Mexico. Ending with the punk style and the most expensive haircut ever, this is an entertaining story. This hilarious book is packed with information about the history of hair. It's organized as a chronological timeline that is easy for young readers to understand. This book could easily be read in chunks, or straight through. My students begged me to read it straight through-- they loved the anecdotes about philosphers trying to cure baldness with goat pee and details about how the first blow dryer was invented. Many prominent historical figures appear (Joan of Arc, Marie Antoinette, Elizabeth I, John Lennon among them), so this is also possible to use as a biographical study. This book really excites students about the potentials for nonfiction. Summary: This book is all about hair and the history of it. It talks about the different parts of the world at different parts of time and the different hair styles that that time held. This book gives history about places and times and also gives a funny twist on hair. Genre: Historical non-fiction keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
