DNF - I could not get past page 153. I had to give it up due to the following reasons.

Page 8- How the heroine describes herself - "My legs were way to long, my skin far too pale, and my eyes...they were violet. Yes, weird, I know." NO, IT'S FUCKING NOT WEIRD!!!! WHY DO YOU THINK THE "POPULAR" GIRLS HATE YOU?!! YOU'RE FUCKING GORGEOUS!

Page 152 - The hero says to the heroine about her abilities - "God, how the heck am I supposed to explain to you how important you are?" ( )

I thought the premise of this book was interesting, a girl who had previously been unable to feel suddenly starts getting her emotions back, but it quickly disappointed me. The only reason I kept reading was in the hope that the plot would go somewhere interesting. It didn't.

First off we meet Gemma who has been unable to feel her entire life, but suddenly she is able to experience emotions which surface accompanied by a prickling sensation. Of course, this being a book aimed at young adults, the first feeling we really get any detail about is attraction to a boy. Alex is a complete jerk to her throughout the entire book and yet Gemma continues to have feelings for him, which aren't really explained other than the "electricity" between them.

Gemma takes forever to put all the pieces together when I had pretty much worked it all out in the first half of the book. Not a lot actually seems to happen, its a lot of Gemma asking questions and following Alex around obediently. She is a wet and annoying main character who doesn't really seem to have much of a personality, rarely does she take her destiny into her own hands, and when she does she usually just attempts to run away without any sort of plan.

If Alex and Gemma are empty shells, then the other characters are merely names on a page. They have barely any of their own personality, with Nicolas barely being mentioned without the word 'creepy' next to him. Show us he's creepy, don't keep telling us. Marco and Sophia have very little interaction with Gemma despite supposedly being her guardians. Laylen was possibly the only character I was interested in, his story raised questions and I liked that he was honest with Gemma. ( )

After not having any emotions for a as long she can remember, Gemma Lucas can suddenly feel a myriad of emotions. She had a hard time dealing with them at first. But when Alex appears at her school she starts to feel an unexplained electricity all over her. Alex is basically a jerk, or moody as he might describe himself but Gemma can't seem to stop swooning over him even though he snubs her. The romance part of the story is not all consuming as most paranormal books, he didn't seem ready to give up everything for his love for Gemma immediately like some PNR. Although, you can see that Alex has feelings for Gemma. Because of Alex's moods swings and troublemaker flirting, Gemma has a hard time deciphering if he's messing with her or not; his interactions with Gemma were sometimes hot and sometimes cold.

Gemma finds out that a huge piece of her memory is missing and that she is important to survival of the world. She is suddenly on the run for her life and learn who she can trust or not if she wants to survive.

Being in Gemma's head was kind of funny at times, her narration was more conversational and she has the craziest thoughts and wit going on in her head and it's funny when she not trying to be. She was a loner and very reserved at first but when Alex enters her her life she suddenly finds her voice and her sarcasm and it's was good to see her character develop.

The book was pretty good, little slow to start and more action and mystery driven and a little lacking in the romance department. However, the concept was interesting. ( )

I got this book on my kindle at Christmas time as the novel was free on Amazon. I wasn't sure what to expect as I don't really like the paranormal genre of books but as it was free I was willing to give it a chance.

Plot: 3/5

I quite enjoyed this plot as it wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be. Although at the start of the novel it read like a terrible Twilight copy it did improve as it went on. The story around the fallen star, although has been used before, was presented in a different and unique way. I was worried at one part as there felt like there could be a love triangle being introduced but it seemed to fade away again.

Characters: 2/5

The main character is a girl called Gemma, who has got to be one of the worst and most dislikeable characters I have ever had the misfortune to read about. She is whinny and spent a lot of the novel complaining to anyone who would listen. She was also very childish and immature and I felt like telling her to grow up a lot. She also seemed quite cowardly in my eyes. She spent a lot of time hiding behind people, waiting for them to get her out of there.

The main love interest is a boy called Alex who is your usual mysterious good looking guy. Gemma seemed to fall in love with him instantly which annoys me and is very common in young adult fiction at the moment. He wasn't a particularly interesting character as you knew very little about him.

Overall: 3/5

Although this story starts like a poor Twilight copy it does improve. It isn't the most amazing paranormal novel I have ever read but it isn't bad. If you like paranormal novels I would give it try.
