Outlaw is about Jake Knight who is a spoiled bored rich kid living in an English boarding school. When he gets kicked out for playing a game called "geothimble," in which students try to find objects that have been planted by other players in impossible to reach locations, Jake is sent to Burkina Faso in Africa where Jake's father is the British Ambassador. Jake and his sister, Kas are soon kidnapped leading them to more adventure and political intrigue than Jake could ever have imagined. From the African desert to tribal villages to small African communities, Jake and his sister find themselves in a battle between local outlaws and the corrupt government.

This book had lots of action, twists, and suspense. Some of the dialogue was not spot on making the characters less than realistic. Also, the shift in terms mixing English, French, and African languages made some of the characters and settings hard to follow and some of the story hard to understand, but overall, this was an exciting adventure story. This was a fantastic modern adventure story. Set in the cities and desert villages of Burkina Faso, it follows two British teenagers as they learn what life is really like in modern Africa. ( )

I didn't expect to like this novel much, but I did. Jake is an interesting character but Yakuuba is definitely more interesting. I do wish the author would have interspersed more information about Burkina Faso throughout the novel. While the novel's plot is well-paced, some elements tied together a bit too nicely and felt unbelievable. ( )

Jake and his sister are kidnapped from a fancy banquet in Burkina Faso, where their father is ambassador, and end up at a hidden camp in the middle of the desert. All is not as it seems however; is the MI5 rescuer the good guy? Is the dangerous captor who Jake has been told he is? The suspense builds right until the end, and the setting make for a most intriguing plot. ( )

Jake Knight longs for adventure, but he’s stuck at a stuffy English boarding school. When he is suspended for being caught off campus while playing a geocaching game, Jake joins his parents and sister at the British Embassy in Burkina Faso, where his father is the ambassador. Things are definitely looking up … or so he thinks.

At a fancy diplomatic party, Jake and his sister Kas are kidnapped by terrorists. The culprit is the infamous Yakuuba Sor, the most wanted outlaw in the Sahara. As Jake and Kas try to escape, they find that things are not entirely what they seem. Is is possible that Yakuuba Sor is the good guy? Who is really behind their kidnapping? Can Jake and Kas return to their parents safe and sound?

Jake wanted adventure and he certainly gets it in this thriller! ( )
