This one i also liked.....a common theme seemed to be the conflict between the selfish, shallow, arrogant types and those hard-working, responsible types with strong character oozing out of their pores. And it is a mixed bag as to who is victorious....sometimes the loser, sometimes not. And it is interesting for me to reflect upon the fact that as i encounter the loser types in my daily life, i am quick to casually assign their fate as a product of our modern, changing times.....but in fact, sadly, it appears to be more human nature that transcends time and place. This book was written in the post WWI early 1920's and the loser types were out in full force, along with responsible ones trying to hold everything together....just like i encounter today. Interesting.....to me at least. Ferber has a wonderful knack for very clearly revealing character and her midwestern heritage is evident. I particularly liked 'Old Man Minick,' 'Not a Day Over Twenty-One,' & 'The Sudden Sixties.' Recommended for a nice easy read. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Too boring.
I did like that story "Old Man MiNick."
I thought this was a novel about a Gigolo. Maybe that would have been interesting; I've known of a couple in my time. They're usually pendejos.
Well the story "Gigolo" in here was about a pendejo, but a very nice young woman likes him, so he was saved from himself.
That's it for me for Edna ferber, because looking back, I see that every book I've read of hers, I rated it two stars. ( )
