Dumb dumb dumb dumb. I didn't finish this book. First off, the email spam holograms were annoying. The graphics in this book for 90% were terrible and blurry. I also didn't care for the storyline about the giant lizards being The Ripper. Not a fan of this graphic novel at all.

This has two completely different kinds of stories. The first has a problem onboard the TARDIS when Rory and Amy try to check the email on their phones: their spam appear as holograms. The tone is light, quite silly. The second has the same group traveling to Victorian London to deal with Jack the Ripper. Natasha and I were both amused by the first, but I enjoyed the second more than she did. Well, I have been reading up on Ripper Lore for thirty-some years. Although there is violence in the second story, the identity of the killer as an alien monster removes the usual difficulties with the tale, and makes it much "cleaner" and more suitable for younger readers.

Entertaining stuff, fun for the whole family. Fans of Doctor Who will appreciate how very like the actors the characters sometimes look, and how true their voices remain. Those who are not yet fans will enjoy the accessibility of the graphic novel set up.

Rory is added to the mix in this next installment of IDW's Doctor Who comics, which sees the ubiquitous Tony Lee back on writing duties. The first story here, the one issue "Spam Filtered" (art by Andrew Currie) is good fun, as the TARDIS is overrun by banner ads and spam e-mails when Rory links his smartphone into its systems. Lee captures the voices of the main cast perfectly, and the story is the kind of delightful thing that really shows off what Doctor Who can be in the comic book medium.

Less successful is "Ripper's Curse" (art by Richard Piers Rayner, Horacio Domingues, and Tim Hamilton), which just never engages; it's all a bit too rote. I did like the bit where the Doctor and Rory figure out where the Ripper's next victim is by hopping forward and asking a tour guide, but Doctor Who already has too many boring takes on Jack the Ripper, and this is just one more; I've never gotten the fascination.

The Eleventh Doctor accompanied by Amy and Rory visit Victorian Whitechapel and find themselves in the midst of the Jack the Ripper killings where the Ripper is an alien! Another enjoyable comic adventure for Doctor Who. ( )
