"A smart, gripping novel rich with the right ingredients??an honest telling of love, anger, forgiveness and the binding power of food" (Susan Gregg Gilmore).

Mira Rinaldi lives life at a rolling boil. Co-owner of Grappa, a chic New York City trattoria, she has an enviable apartment, a brand-new baby, and a frenzied schedule befitting her success.

Everything changes the night she catches her husband, Jake, "wielding his whisk" with Grappa's new maîtress d'hôtel. Mira's fiery response earns her a court-ordered stint in anger management??and a legal and personal predicament as she battles to save her restaurant and pick up the pieces of her life.

Luckily, Mira can fall back on family and friends in Pittsburgh as she struggles to find a recipe for happiness. Then, thanks to some surprising developments back in New York, she has a sudden opportunity to win back what she thought she had lost forever. For Mira, cooking has always brought pleasure in filling others' needs. But the time has come to decide where her own fulfillment lies . . .

Keenly observed and deeply satisfying, this novel is "a delicious debut" about the singular contentment that comes with living??and loving??with gusto (Jamie Cat Callan, author of French Women Don't Sleep Alone).

"There are scores of wonderful scenes of Mira either cooking up a storm or eating her way through Pittsburgh from the perfect biscotti at Bruno's Bakery, to Italian sausages and cheese from The Pennsylvania Macaroni Factory to oversized sandwiches at Primanti Brothers (it's enough to make you want to hop on the next plane to Pittsburgh) . . . Meredith Mileti's debut novel is as thoughtful and poignant as it is wickedly funny. It is one to savor??recipes included." ??New York Journal

Oh how I loved this book.

Mira is a beautifully written character. She and her husband Jake are big in the food world in New York City. Co owners of Grappa, a very successful restaurant, their life is a dream. Until Mira walks in on her husband and their femme maitre d in flagrante and a brawl ensues. Mira stands to lose everything, her restaurant, her husband, her city, her freedom....

All the characters were very well fleshed out. I loved Mira's circle of friends. The writing itself was fantastic. I didn't want to put the book down. Just wonderfully done. ( )

Perfectly enjoyable story about a woman coming to grips with marriage failure and a professional set back. The descriptions of cooking and food were amazing! ( )

I loved this book! I am also, as Meredith Mileti puts it in a note about herself at the end of her fabulous book, “an untrained, albeit incredibly enthusiastic, home cook” and I fell in love with the heroine of this book, Mira! She’s funny and sarcastic and amazing in any kitchen! She has to take control of her life after finding her husband and a co-worker together…well…control may not be all she takes…she also took a chunk of the other woman’s hair without even realizing it! Love it!! And that’s just the beginning! It’s a wonderful story of finding yourself again after a long relationship ends (or does it?) and also about this beautiful love affair with food we all have and the important role food, or feeding those we love and care about, plays in our lives!
At the end of the book Meredith includes several amazing recipes that were used during an important part of the story! Perfection!! ( )

This tale of a woman scorned and her efforts to recover from betrayal while coping with a new baby and the loss of her restaurant is incredibly well-written and very enjoyable. Once I started reading, I was unable to put it down because it was just so emotionally true. As Mira learns exactly what she needs to live, and exactly how much strength she truly possess, the reader can actually see her grow and change. I enjoy food-lit and this book had plenty of mouth-watering descriptions of food I wish I could cook, descriptions that are as appealing as the story that unfolds in this novel. This was a great read, one I highly recommend, and I can't wait for the next book from this talented author! ( )
