From Amazon: For two thousand years, the Mayan Calendar has prophesied the end of mankind on a date equating to December 21st, 2012. As that day approaches, greed, corruption, economic collapse, and violence seem to be pushing our species to the predicted brink of disaster. But there is another Doomsday threat looming in our near future, a very real threat that can wipe-out not only humanity but our entire planet. Phobos: Mayan Fear, Steve Alten’s third book in the Mayan Prophecy series, is a doomsday rollercoaster ride of adventure that follows Immanuel Gabriel to the end of the world and back again for one last shot at salvation. During Immanuel’s journey with his deceased grandfather, archaeologist Julius Gabriel, Julius reveals everything the Mayans knew and feared—from the secrets of creation that predate the Big Bang to the existence of extraterrestrials that have come to Earth to save our species. My Thoughts: I just wanted to finish the Domain trilogy otherwise I would have stopped reading it. At points, the plot got too complex, confusing and was just overkill for me. Still a very good and captivating read; however, as the timelines became increasingly overwritten and enmeshed, I found myself almost skipping the Mayan mythology explanations in an effort to keep up with the story. The ending seemed a bit of a quick wrap, as well as sentimental. Not the quality of the previous two parts but neverthless, I will be reading part four when it comes out. The story still continues and in my opinion, still has something to give.

HTML: A dazzling look at Mayan mythology incarnate from New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten For two thousand years, the Mayan Calendar has prophesied the end of mankind on a date equating to December 21st, 2012. As that day approaches, greed, corruption, economic collapse, and violence seem to be pushing our species to the predicted brink of disaster. But there is another doomsday threat looming in our near future, a very real threat that can wipe out not only humanity but our entire planet. Phobos: Mayan Fear, Steve Alten's third book in the Mayan prophecy-based Domain series, is a doomsday rollercoaster ride of adventure that follows Immanuel Gabriel to the end of the world and back again for one last shot at salvation. During Immanuel's journey with his deceased grandfather, archaeologist Julius Gabriel, Julius reveals everything the Mayans knew and fearedâ??from the secrets of creation that predate the Big Bang to the existence of extraterrestrials that have come to Earth to save our species. The universe is not what it seems, nor is human existence. The ticking clock of physicality that begins at conception and terminates with our final breath is neither the end nor the beginning, but an elaborate ruse constructed as a test. We are failing miserably. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

I can't think of an instance in which an author worked so hard (LOOK at all my RESEARCH) to undo everything the series has done so far, completely changing the already-convoluted timeline, mythology, etc. because the author got distracted by a shiny new interest (Large Hadron Collider scaremongering and Baby's First Kabbalah, in this case).
The cardinal sin is that, since the last book wrapped up pretty much all storyline issues, resolved the Mayan mystery, future, etc., all the stuff we're dealing with here is completely boring. If you're going to have a stupid mythology, commit to it.
Lots of skimming here to get to the "good" stuff. Lots of backstory on stuff no one was curious about, tertiary characters, scenes we've already seen in their entirety, etc.
Completely. Stupid. ( )
