Albert Schweitzer: Genius of the jungle is a wonderful introductory biography to Schweitzer's life as a devoted humanitarian and scholar. With a degree in philosophy, a doctorate in Theology, a medical degree, and a talent for music, Schweitzer was a true renaissance man of his time, a man driven to aide society’s needy while forsaking his own happiness.

Gollomb's book is an engaging portrayal of Schweitzer's incredible life that was devoted to writing books on religion, the decay of civilization, and his life and challenges in the African jungles. A man of many talents, Albert also became a concert pianist, organ player, and achieved his life-long dream of building a hospital in Gabon, a small equatorial territory on the West African Coast. This is an insightful book with just enough information for a reader to get a good taste of who Albert Schweitzer was without getting bogged down in a lot of dry minutiae that most biographies offer.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it anyone interested in learning about this astounding human being that had a reverence for all of life's creatures and had an enormous heart to those in need. ( )
