A Wall Street Journal bestseller.Secrets told in the church ladies' room are supposed to stay in the ladies' room. But that doesn't mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude's funeral won't change the rest of her life.Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion, a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life, and a mother with Alzheimer's residing in the local nursing home. She doesn't really need a crumbling old house about to fall into nothing but a pile of memories and broken knickknacks.Billy Lee Tucker, resident oddball in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, lived next door to Gert, and in her will she leaves him the funds to help Trudy remodel the old house. That's fine with Billy Lee, because he's been in love with Trudy since before they started school. And just spending time with her is something he'd never ever allowed himself to dream about.A beautiful home rises up from the old house on Broadway, and right along with it rises up a relationship. But is Trudy too scarred from what she heard in the ladies' room to see a lovely future with Billy Lee?… (mehr)

This is just a lighthearted, entertaining little book. Not my usual fare but I really enjoyed it. ( )

A bit predictable but an enjoyable read. I listened to this one on the way to get my daughter from college and it kept me engaged and looking forward to each new chapter. It was not a smutty book like so many today. It was clean and no bad language. The characters were believable. It was not a high action and adventure type read... just a comfortable hometown kinda read. I really enjoyed that I knew some of the places she mentioned in the book. That always brings things a little more to life for me. I will definitely seek out more Carolyn Brown books. ( )

Very sweet little RomCom story. A lot like the plot of the movie Hope Floats which is an all-time favorite of mine. Could totally see this as a Hallmark movie. Pretty predictable story line but that's ok once in a while, especially after my recent binge of true crime and serial killer stories. ( )

Enjoyable Read

Nice blend of overcoming obstacles and finding oneself coupled with a predictable sweet happily ever after. The characters were believable and nice to get to know. ( )

If I wiggled again, Great-aunt Gert was going to sit straight up in that pale pink coffin and give me an evil glare the way she used to do when I was a child and couldn't sit still in church.

Saint Peter could get rid of his little black book with the names of the worthy written in it. Aunt Gert would arrive with a new and updated version tucked under her arm.
For me, food cures everything. Depression. Boredom. Anger. Chocolate cake can take care of ingrown toenails, and potato chips can eradicate acne.
Next the ruined panty hose came off. I removed my wide gold wedding band, tied it to the leg with the big hole, and carried it back to the bedroom. I stood on the bed and looped the hose around a blade on the ceiling fan. I hoped Drew would flip on the light switch and the thing would knock him upside the head.
When opportunity knocks, you don't leave it standing on the doorstep. You invite it in and feed it chocolate cake.
