Another previously unpublished D.E. Stevenson, this book includes a short novel and several short stories. The novel is about the adventures of Kenneth Leslie, a young man who answers an advertisement that involves him in "theft" of a valuable picture, ownership of which is disputed. He unintentionally picks the same night that some other thieves are trying to steal the painting. Hijinks ensue. It's okay, readable but forgettable. The short stories are a bit darker than most of D.E. Stevenson, presumably written when she was still trying to find her style. I'm glad she did. These stories are of note to anyone who is a DES fan, but not the best place to start for a newbie. ( )
