Fantasy. Fiction. Thriller. HTML:

The president's "chillingly charismatic" (USA Today) vampire and his White House handler take on an immortal serial killer wreaking havoc on the 2012 campaign trail.

The presidential campaign trail, 2012.

A political operative and a volunteer are brutally murdered while in a compromising position. Written in their blood on the wall of the crime scene: It's Nice to Be Back.

And with that, a centuries-old horror returns to taunt Nathaniel Cade, the president's vampire.

Turned into an inhuman predator 145 years ago and bound by blood oath to serve the president, Cade protects the United States from the supernatural enemies that lurk in the dark, waiting for their chance to extinguish humanity.

In all that time, Cade has fought one particular evil over and over again: an undying murderer with origins deeply tangled in the occult; the source of urban legends and nightmares across the country; the patron saint of serial killers like Son of Sam, the Zodiac Killer, and Charles Manson. It has gone by many names and guises but is best known by the one that all children instinctively fear: the Boogeyman. Cade has faced the Boogeyman everywhere, from the alleys of nineteenth century New Orleans to Lake Havasu during spring break. Only one thing remains the same: no matter how Cade kills him, the Boogeyman always comes back.

When the killer begins targeting the president's people on the campaign trail, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, are tasked with cleaning up the mess before it spills over into the upcoming election. But as the bodies pile up, they find their quarry has evolved. Worse, he has help from new worshippers and an enemy thought dead: Helen Holt, the rogue intelligence operative who nearly killed Zach and Cade on their first case together.

Against the backdrop of the 2012 presidential race, with the threat of constant exposure by the media, Cade and Zach must stop the one monster Cade has never been able to defeat completely. And they must do it before the Boogeyman adds another victim to his long and bloody list: the president of the United States himself.

Cade and Zach are back and fighting their worst opponent yet ... the Boogieman. I look forward to the next book when they'll be facing someone who has caused problems in the past... ( )

Nathaniel Cade has been the president's vampire since he was caught and swore a blood oath to protect the nation and its leader. In the third installment of the series Cade and his handler, Zach Barrows, have to accompany President Samuel Curtis on his re-election tour to protect him against one of the most gruesome monsters out there....the Boogeyman. Cade has met the Boogeyman before, a legendary figure that draws its power and thirst for blood from the killers and sadists that inhabit the world. While the president is on the campaign trail, evidence surfaces that the Bogeyman is back in action and preparing to take out President Curtis. We follow Cade as he tracks the killer through Middle America, leaving bodies in his wake. Filled with non-stop action, gore, blood and disembowelment, you will certainly enjoy this one if you were a fan of the first two books, Blood Oath and The President's Vampire.

Last year I read the first book of the series even though I'm not a fan of paranormal, vampires, werewolves, etc. I've kept up with it because it's a solid story full of characters that absolutely fascinate me. I really enjoy the historical interludes where we witness Cade interacting with one of the past presidents. It combines a horror thriller with an action packed movie. It might not be the best book I've read all year but it is one of the most fun.

I enjoyed the first book of the series. The second took a step back. I like Cade. He makes for some fun. This book took a lot of that fun away.

I admit, one of the things I loved about the earlier books was the quotes at the start of each chapter, especially those that give reference to the classified document "Nightmare Pet." Another thing I enjoy about this series is there is just the right mix of horror, humor, and commentary to make the book fun. This one has some infinitely awesome quotable material in the first 15 chapters. Though some of the back story chapters I'd probably drop to make the story flow better.

While the story line has the some of the usual fun, I felt like someone let the agent and editor loose in the text. Some of the writing felt forced and not where the author wanted to be.

Much as I don't like to or believe in celebrating death, I cheered when Cade killed off Megan Rourk, the most annoying character in the book to date. I wanted more to suffer a similar fate, as the book had a plethora of bad characters this time around.

This book doesn't hold up as well as the last two. It felt forced, too much like the editors were hip deep, rather than simply suggesting changes. Some of the story felt squished, like this could have been two or three books, rather than one.

I'd say yes for the first one, maybe for the second one, but NO to this one. ( )

In the space of 2 sentances, Mr. Farnsworth went from horror, ("He could be anyone, and his bodycount his higher than anything I've ever faced.") to tech geekery (describing a bleeding-edge touchscreen computer). That knocked me right out of the narrative. I'm not going back in. The narrator does a good job, especially in voicing Nathanial Cade; it's just not enough to get me through an otherwise awful story.
