Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit is considered by many to be the most difficult book in the philosophical canon. While some authors have published compelling essays on various aspects of the book, few authors have successfully tackled the whole. That is precisely what Stewart does, however, by interpreting Hegel's work at both the microlevel of dialectical movement and the macro level of the role of the argument within the context of the book as a whole.
