Diary of Andrs Fava is all reflection: on his reading, his dreams, conversations and writing. This unpredictable journal is peppered with quotes from French poets and American jazzmen. Bemused and melancholy, erudite and searching, this irreverent gem is full of autobiographical winks at the reader and hints at themes and techniques Cortzar would continue to explore. This exceptionally short book wrecks like an earthquake. Cortazar is full of passion for Literature, fiery contempt for forgery, and incredible in his ability to be both concise and potent--like Everclear--with his words.
One of the best treatises on literature. Only Leonard Cohen comes to mind as a peer as a writers' critic.
Needless to say (by the five-star review) the next time I go to the library for books I'm finding a Cortazar. ( )
