Een mini Lewis Carroll: Alice in Wonderland. Door Jennifer Adams, illustraties Alison Oliver

Oh, wow! Wat een tof idee. Alice in wonderland voor de allerkleinsten (lees: vanaf 1 jaar). Hoewel het een kartonboekje is met een beperkt aantal pagina’s zijn alle essentiële ingrediënten aanwezig: een wit konijn, een oranje kat, een bruine hoed, rode harten,…

Misschien valt het u op? De bedoeling van dit boekje is om kinderen kleuren te leren. Op een super toffe manier. En en passant kan je ze, met behulp van de vrolijke prenten, het verhaal van Alice vertellen. (Men kan niet vroeg genoeg beginnen om kinderen boeken-fan te maken want jong geleerd is oud gedaan.)

De afwerking van dit boek is perfect, de tekeningen zijn mooi en grappig en het hele concept an sich is super goed gevonden.

Ik ben 39 jaar te oud voor dit boek, heb ook geen kinderen, toch ben ik dol op deze mini Lewis Carroll (op de grote trouwens ook). Echte Alice fans, ongeacht hun leeftijd, moeten deze versie ook in huis halen: door de stevige kartonpagina’s kan je het boek open op je kast zetten, om vanop afstand van dat moois te genieten. De lente komt er aan, tijd voor wat vrolijks om je huis te versieren ;) ( )

I can't believe they got the colour blue wrong in a book purporting to be about colours. The "blue caterpillar" is distinctly teal-green, and not blue at all, not even blue enough to be called turquoise or aqua. It's fine for my Alice collection, but I won't be reading it to my young grandchildren to help them learn colours!

A highly attractive book, but of limited didactic value. ( )

I love the entire series of classics for preschoolers and early readers as much as my 2-year-old granddaughter -- If you have kids or grandkids, these are a great addition to your home library and will get children interested in the classics from an early age. Each has a different educational element to it:
Little Miss Austen:
Pride and Prejudice is a counting primer
Sense and Sensibility is a an opposites primer
Little Miss Bronte:
Wuthering Heights is a weather primer
Little Master Conan Doyle:
Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles is a sounds primer
Little Master Kipling
The Jungle Book is an animals primer
Little Master Carroll
Alice in Wonderland a colors primer ( )

From the back of the book- "BabyLit is a fashionable way to introduce your child to the world of classic literature". This one goes through Alice's Wonderland with a color theme, "white rabbit", "purple bottle", "red hearts". The illustrations are modern and bold, simple on one page and with intricate patterns on the opposing page. A child would probably enjoy the pictures and colors, but unless otherwise introduced to Alice in Wonderland, the lack of story in this "version" does not really introduce the classic very well. My son did really like this book, though.
