Good stuff; at this point I'm rarely surprised by anything Wright says, and I wasn't surprised here, but he does a nice job of setting up his arguments. If only he'd write scholarly things that were a bit shorter. Or really anything that was a bit shorter. ( ) I'm not a fan of N.T. Wright, and I hadn't even heard of this book before. But thinking lately about King Jesus, and having a long time interest in the full meaning of the Kingdom of Heaven, I was hoping, from its title, that this book would address some of that theology, and I was curious about what N.T. Wright's take on it would be. As it turned out, I really did like the book. Wright is arguing for his version of a "Full Gospel" kind of theology that doesn't leave out the life and ministry and teachings of Jesus as the creeds, which move from "born of the Virgin Mary" to "suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried," do. Especially Wright is concerned that the main message of the Gospels, which has been overlooked and underexpressed in recent Christian thought, shows how interrelated the Kingdom of God and the Cross of Jesus are -- how it is through the cross that the Kingdom has come and is coming...and how Israel's history fulfilled in Jesus, the incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus, and the Trinity itself, are all part of that big story of Jesus becoming King of Kings. I'd give this book 5 stars except that it isn't written all that clearly and compellingly. Still a very good book that I'm glad I read, and that I hope provokes a lot of fresh thought and good discussion. N. T. Wright takes a look at Jesus' purpose on earth by taking into account the Old Testament as well as what Christ revealed of His own purpose in the Gospels. It reveals truths about the Kingdom of God. He emphasizes the need to look at all of the Gospels. Somehow much of what the author was trying to stress was lost to me as I cringed every time there was a sentence fragment, a sentence beginning with a conjunction, or other poor grammatical constructions. The book needed much additional editing, not only because of the grammatical errors, but also because the author repeated points or rambled unnecessarily in places. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Posits that the true central story of the Gospels is the coronation of God through Jesus as the climax of all human history, which sets the groundwork for transforming the way we see our role and duties in the world today. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
