The subject of this biography is Pablo Picasso. He created art that is known around the world and fought to create new movements of art that inspired many future generations of artists. I learned that Pablo Picasso was famous for his art at a very young age. Pablo moved to France and was known for his realist paintings that were very popular in Europe. One day, after seeing African masks, Pablo was inspired to create something less sensical. As a result he received lots of disapproval from people, yet he continued to paint images that portrayed his imagination as real. The organization of this book was good at telling the story through the illustrations. When people reacted to Pablo's work, it was always an overwhelming amount of people on the page that conveys the masses that reacted to Pablo's art in many ways. The background often had images that reflected different feelings and focuses that shifted throughout Pablo's life. For example, when Pablo talks about making pictures that don't make sense because the world around him doesn't make sense, the background shows pictures of cars, airplanes, telephones, and bombs. This biography was great in focusing on Pablo's early life as an artist. I would like to know more about the second half of Pablo's life. ( )

I like this book for a few reasons. The first is that it describes the life of Picasso in a non-traditional way so that it is not only informative but brought to life in an interesting format. It is told like a story with repetitive lines like, “Just behave, Pablo Picasso!” which children can follow along and keep up with the story without being bored. The story talks about how Picasso feels and how he thinks as he matures and his art evolves. The book includes moving text and different fonts which are usually not seen in the traditional text. However, this creative format reflects the way art is alive and talks about Picasso in an informative way still.
Another reason I enjoyed reading this story is that the book uses Picasso’s own work to show how his art transformed. The illustrations even show scenes in the style of his new work. For example, one part of the story shows his critics complaining about how awful his work is. They look discombobulated and modern like how his newer work looks. This is a slight dig at critics because their criticism is what fuels his creativity.
The big idea is to reinvent yourself constantly, as Picasso would repeatedly say throughout the story. It has an overarching theme that is to do what you dream despite criticism. Picasso started off with common art but felt uninspired in time. When he broke the mold and ventured into new forms of painting, he opened doors to more possibilities and reached more people. Lastly, another concept is to follow your passion, not the money. At times, Picasso had no money because his work seemed unpopular, however, because he loved what he did, he eventually flourished and is now a renowned artist.

I really enjoyed this book because of its descriptive language and well-developed characterization of Pablo Picasso. First, the author has done a good job at evoking emotion in the reader through his expressive language. When Pablo introduces his different art work, the way the audience in the story reacts shows the reader how they were feeling. At one point the author dramatizes them saying that every person in Paris opens their window at the same time and yells negative critiques down at Picasso. On another page, the illustration shows many critiques viewing Picasso’s work and yelling a collective “terrible!”. The reader can clearly tell how they are feeling and also how that might make Picasso feel. The author also exemplifies Picasso on top of a roof, yelling down at the citizens of Paris “to copy yourself is pathetic” as well as at an exaggerated height with a booming voice saying “the chief enemy of creativity is good sense”. The illustration of Picasso and his words take up the whole page, giving the reader a clear indicator of how important the message is. In addition, the author has also done a good job characterizing Pablo. He explains how he gets bored with painting the same things over and over and shows the reader how he has been innovative with his creativeness and painting styles, using geometric shapes and lines to represent human faces as well as their feelings. Each few pages the author further develops Pablo’s story, explaining how he learns to paint quickly, travels to new environments, and makes new creative discoveries within his painting that he tries to share with the public. At one point he says that painting the same thing over and over and copying himself would be the death to his creativity. The big picture of this book would be that it is important to be yourself and to do and create things that represent you, not what society wants you to do. Pablo shows his ability to push the boundaries that society has constructed and expand art through new creativity without fear of judgment. ( )

He was a natural artist that quickly became the world's greatest artist; however, when he was asked to keep creating the same kind of art over and over again he refused. He was inspired by lots of different kinds of art, especially an exhibit he saw that displayed African masks. He was so inspired that his next piece was a painting of those masks. He was heavily criticized for wanting to create new art but that didn't stop him from becoming the father of modern art.

This book is an informational book that talks about the art work of Pablo Picasso. In the beginning we see his life of how he was really poor, but with his technique everyone was amazed with the art work he would present. He became very known for his work and many people fell involve with is work. However, he wanted to explore more and not paint like everyone else. He wanted to create a new art work so he began to explore different cultures, doing this he created a masterpiece that was unlike any other. Various people critiqued it and judged him for it. They said it was too ugly that maybe he should go back to his original style, but Picasso did not listen to them. He continued to draw his out of the ordinary paintings and became known as modern painter.
