Yet another overview of China, some bits about the past, the present and where this country is headed. What the world sees today is this giant country gobbling up resources as if there was no tomorrow. What one does not see and an insight that one will get is how this growth is achieved. Tremendous growth with no real fundamentals. Basically, building a skyscraper of cards that will come crashing down some day in the near future. The volume is a scrap book attempting to pass itself off as a weighty original work of reference, but is almost completely devoid of opinion, prediction or analysis of any kind. Instead, Mr. Fenby offers 18 chapters of layer upon layer of largely unsourced facts. Lists of firsts, bests and greats are followed by lists of lasts, worsts and leasts, forming such a blizzard of information that the author himself is sometimes disoriented. The determination to throw every possible statistic into each side of an argument leads to the inclusion of much that is barely relevant. AuszeichnungenBemerkenswerte Listen
Using a viewpoint that sees the country from the inside out, Jonathan Fenby links together the myriad features of today's China to arrive at a coherent picture of its nature and depict its future, both internally and in its impact on the rest of the world.
