"Big Wind Coming!" was a great description for a young student about a hurricane and what can happen during it. I thought it to be unique because it was like pastel illustrations, which were outstanding! I could see myself definitely putting this into a lesson plan about Louisiana or at a current time like now with Hurricane season upon us. I did think the part about the little girl leaving her doll somewhere was a bit off the story line. I just thought it was thrown in to take up space, that it really did not have much to do with the story or the doll was not spoken about enough for it to me an important element of the story. Other wise, I loved it and would have this in my classroom for students to enjoy! ( )

A storm is coming and they must gather prized possessions and prepare for it. The board games of checkers in the candlelight reminds me of the many power outages during storms I have been through with my siblings. When reading this book along with my 11-year-old sister she is reminded of these storm memories made. Must stay inside and board up windows this reminds many New Orleans children of Katrina and informs kids of storm preparation. This allows informs kids of the destruction and aftermath of storms seen in the ending. The illustrations of this book and the smearing and shaken pictures greatly emphasize the plot and set the tone of the books weather. ( )

This story about the hurricane gives children information about the danger of the storm. The illustrations are in watercolor which compliments the texts. This book would be great when talking about disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes. It would show the children the effect of the storms and what people do for safety. ( )
