Seriously, I had been reading and reading and reading and the plot still hasn't moved past "there's a gunman in the school". Because that's it. That's all that happens in the first half (or two thirds) of the book. Instead of developing of the story we are given tons of information about characters' past (which mainly has nothing to do with the current events). Closer to the end I just started to skip Holly and Augie chapters, because what's the point. And when the gunman's name was "revealed" (by that time there wasn't a lot of options, actually) I wanted to close the book immediately, so stupid and fake it was. Anyway, the first thing I did after finishing "One breath away" is removed all other Gudenkauf's books from my ebook. I'm never ever reading that again. Another of Gudenkauf's books that I couldn't put down. From the first page she has you hooked, invested in the characters, the story, and the outcome. Her characters become so real through the pages that their welfare is more of a concern for the reader than the mystery of who is behind the madness and mayhem. A touchy subject to tackle, I think Gudenkauf does a wonderful job of exploring the emotions of the topic. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
