This is a rhyming romp featuring a boy and his dog. Out playing fetch, the dog is distracted by a cat and runs off, beginning a wild chase, meeting up with various animals along the way. Each new encounter prompts an appropriate rhyme,

"Hip Hop!
ribbet-ribbet
splish-splish
splash!"

with a repeating refrain, featuring variations on

"Bow-wow
wiggle-waggle
yip-yap
yowl!"

The words bounce and jump across the pages in varying fonts, sizes, and colors, but this is a book that doesn't need words. Bright watercolor illustrations make it fun and easy to follow the antics of the irresistibly cute dog(with an eye circle reminiscent of the Little Rascals' dog, Pete) as he chases about, with the boy close on his tail. Read it once through before trying it out on a group for a fun read-aloud.

This book for young children has a rhyming, rhthymic pattern about a boy playing with his dog.

As a teacher of elementary-aged children I had a hard time accepting this book. It was really rhyming at all times, nor alliteration at all times, it was just sort of jumbled. I had a hard time following the illustrations because the words were dancing all over the page. And it's not something I feel really young children would get but not something beginner readers could read yet. So I was just sort of confused and found it difficult how I could use this book with young children. ( )

Bow Wow Wiggle Waggle is a really cute book about a boy playing fetch with his dog and things go a lil awry. I think younger readers (pre-k -1) will really enjoy this book. However this book can be used as a great demonstration of onamonapia and using pictures to support the text. I would def use this book in my classroom.

Bow -Wow Wiggle Waggle is a cute story about a boy and his dog playing fetch. But it turns into the dog and all kids of animals moving throughout the story. Its a great way to talk about action words.

A dog and his boy play until the dog is distracted by a cat and then other creatures. The animals run around and the dog loses his boy. He is sad until he finds his boy again. Many children can relate to the child playing with his dog and how easily distracted they can be. This rhyming story has only sound effect types of words like the title suggests. Words such as yip yap, flutter-flutter, and twitch-twitch give the story sound and movement and keep the pace quick, the way the animals are running and jumping in the story. The illustrations are uncluttered, and the text is placed around the pages to reflect the motion. The fonts change to match the meaning of the words. Young children will enjoy a very expressive reading of this story. Indeed, it is a story that demands reading aloud. It is recommended for public and school libraries as well as book shelves in homes, preschools, and day cares.
