Joel finds out he's having a son and panics, because he's not into doing the things he thinks most boys/men like to do: drinking beer, hunting, watching football and fixing things around the house. He decides to "man-up" by camping out with boy scouts (only 1 night), spending time with fire fighters (24-hours), watching football with former pro-players/coach, drink whiskey (or maybe it was scotch?) and take part in boot camp (only 3 days).

He does learn some things along the way and comes to realize that it isn't these aren't the THINGS that he needs to do to make his son look up to him "as a man". (Although, Joel can now navigate his was through some "manly" conversations.) One thing he needs to do is NOT FEAR an experience.

This review would really be easier to write if it wasn't 2 days later and I had the book with me! ( )

I liked the book. It was little more serious than his columns and was a good diversion from the other types of reading that I do. He gets added to my list of humor writers that give me a good "ha ha" ( )
