I believe this book would be best suibtable for older children because it does talk about animal fighting and seperation of sibilings which could be hard for the younger students to comprehend. Therefore i believe this book would be best if used as a read aloud done by the teacher to the students so that if they have any questions or the teacher feels they need to clarify it can be done. Tiger, Tiger takes place during ancient Rome, a time period that students may not be all that familiar with or maybe just haven't had the chance to read a book during this time period. Tiger, Tiger is the story of two tiger cub brothers that are separated after being captured. One becoming a pet and the other forced to be an entertainment act within the Coliseum. Students interested in ancient Rome or stories featuring animals will find Tiger, Tiger engaging and entertaining to read. Two tiger cubs are captured in the jungle and separated after arriving in Rome. One is confined to a dank menagerie of animals under the Colosseum where he is trained to fight and attack for the pleasure of the Romans. The other becomes a pet of 12-year-old Aurelia, the daughter of Caesar, the Roman emperor. She names the tiger Boots. Boots is quickly tamed by his trainer: fangs are extracted, feet are shod and he is castrated. The other tiger, Brute, becomes a crowd favorite at the circus where he attacks and kills the slaves sent out to battle him. The story turns its focus to Aurelia, her relationship with cousin Marcus, and a prank they play on Boots' trainer (they hide Boots and claim he escaped, but he really does escape). The trainer's life is on the line if he doesn't find Boots. The emperor condemns him to death and Aurelia, who has come to fall in love with Julius the trainer, must find a way to save his life. This was a really enjoyable book, which I read in one sitting. Aurelia‰ÃƒÂ›Ã‚ªs love and gentleness toward the less fortunate in society is contrasted vividly with the cruelty of the Emperor, whose word is law. The author provides a fascinating insight into ancient Rome and builds the story to a gripping conclusion. Well worth the read. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
