It's the best of the series by far, but without reading the other books, it is not possible to appreciate this one's grandeur. Oblivion starts with the Five being scattered across the world after jumping through a gateway portal in Hong Kong to escape a typhoon at the end of book 4. Also, they arrive some ten years later when the Old Ones have taken over, having caused worldwide chaos and devastation. Jaime turns up in an isolated society in the UK, Scarlett and Matt's journalist buddy, Richard Cole ends up in war-torn Egypt, Pedro & Scott in Italy, and Matt and Scarlett's Triad-protector, Lohan in Brazil. Aided by those who know the Five are the world's only hope to defeat the Old Ones, the Five all drift southward to Oblivion, Chaos's fortress in Antarctica. Each of the Five follows their individual quest of suffering in getting there, making enormous personal sacrifices to save humanity (once again.) I waited quite a while to read the final part to this series, but wow it was worth it. The story unfolded brilliantly and everything seemed to fall into place slowly but surely. There was enough action throughout to keep me interested in all 5 gatekeepers and the other additional characters. I liked the new character Holly, although I did feel like she could have been better developed, I would have liked to know more of her back story and what she remembered about past events, there was some detail but I found myself wanting more, which could be seen as a good thing because it means she was an interesting character. The ending was heartbreaking but perfect and I don't think I could have asked for more. Having escaped from Hong Kong, the five gatekeepers - Matt, Pedro, Scott, Jamie and Scarlett - are scattered in a hostile and dangerous world. As they struggle to re-group and plan their next move, the malevolent King of the Old Ones gathers his forces in Oblivion: a desolate landscape where the last survivors of humanity must fight the ultimate battle. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
