The sizzling first book in the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Marriage to a Billionaire series by "one of the most exciting breakout novelists" (USA TODAY) Jennifer Probst. A marriage in name only... To save her family home, impulsive bookstore owner Alexa Maria McKenzie casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend's older brother--the powerful man who once shattered her heart. Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn't believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father's corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister's childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he offers Alexa a bold proposition. A marriage in name only with certain rules: Avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year so the rules shouldn't be that hard to follow, right? Except fate has a way of upsetting the best-laid plans...… (mehr)

The Marriage Bargain was the typical marriage of convenience story, but the emotions of the characters and the quick-witted banter of the dialogue took it to another level beyond ordinary. Even though the book was fairly short, I enjoyed the development of the characters and the motives behind their actions. A simple story but well worth the read. ( )

Jennifer Probst is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love the way she writes with such realism and humor and warmth. Her characters seem like people I would actually want to meet in real life and then you add in the way she writes about animals and I'm just in love with her books. I also like that her heroines aren't rail thin and they still get the hot guy. Probst also writes a good love scene. She's the type of author where I would (and did) binge buy a bunch of her books. Now I just need to find the time to read them all. ( )

I liked it, but it was a bit tropey and also I'm a bit sick of these men who are damaged and just need the right woman to love them things... Because basically they just act like jerks and I have a hard time coming around to the romance in the end. This was kind of classical romance read, and I'm much more inclined to read the more modern romances. I just didn't feel these characters really. Maybe I need a romance break... ( )

A engaging premise for romance. A pleasant escapist read if contrived. ( )
