It starts out a little slow, when one of two brothers, a somewhat autistic savant who spends all his time memorizing streets of cities using a mapping website similar to Google Street View. He sees something strange in a window, and thinks someone may be getting murdered. Things get interesting when the brothers start investigating this to find out if anything actually happened. The book started quite well and engaging, even though there really wasn't much action at first. But somehow the story was interesting in itself, all the characters appearing and things building up. But when stuff started to happen... Gosh, who actually solves anything with just killing everyone on their way? I mean, OK, bad guys there want to get rid of a "complication", but when it goes wrong they just start to make a veeeery big pile of bodies. What the hell? Like no one would ever notice tons of people mysteriously killed? So the second half of the book I was mostly wanting it to finish already and even skipped some pages, because OH COME ON. Well written, pulls you right in and keeps you engrossed throughout. I like that the 'hero' is just an everyday guy with no special hidden skills and he just gets drawn into a complicated mess. The two main characters are brothers who recently lost their father - one is schizophrenic and has an obsession with maps - memorizing every street of every city using his computer (google maps). As he's clicking down a street, he notices something odd in a window, convinces his brother to explore, and trouble follows. Definitely recommend it.
The surprise plot twists in Trust Your Eyes fall into the following categories and numbers: plot twists the reader can see coming, three; twists the reader might, with a little effort, anticipate; five; plot twists that nobody could figure on in a million years, 364. With the book, Barclay emerges as the writer in the thriller business with the most wicked skill at pulling the rug from under his readers. The plot gets going when a computer nerd, working with a program not unlike Google Earth, spots a murder in progress in New York City. He and his brother investigate, and the surprises commence. And, oh yes, the nerd happens to be a good-hearted schizophrenic. Some days, all you really want is for someone to tell you a wicked-good story...Barclay can’t resist over-plotting an already complex story, but his propulsive narrative style drives right over these bumps. He’s also shrewd enough to slow down the pace for some credible characterizations...laying the groundwork for the knock-your-socks-off ending. Ist enthalten inAuszeichnungen
