On September 1, 1930, as many as 100,000 workers, employed and unemployed, marched through Budapest under the slogan "Work and Bread!" Clashing with armed police, many were injured and one person was killed. This study examines the political history of the Hungarian labor movement from the late 19th century through that bloody September protest and its aftermath. Integrating research with eyewitness accounts, this book recounts the events leading up to the protest as well as the role played by the Social Democratic Party of Hungary, its associated trade unions, and the Hungarian Communist Party. With a brief overview of Hungary’s labor movement, this account also relays how the story was told both in the Rákosi and Kádár eras. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
