In 1920, the missionary brought two young girls to an orphanage in India. The girls didn't know how to talk, walk, or eat from a plate. Some people thought the girls had been abandoned by their parents. Some people said the girls were brought up by wolves in the wild. Still, others thought that the missionary who ran the orphanage made up the story about the girls. Of course, no one knows for sure. ( )

Growing up you always hear stories of people who live in the wild or get raised by animals. This story is of two girls who were raised by wolves. The way the book is written is very interactive and informative. While reading the story you are wondering if the girls were actually raised by wolves or were people just lying. Jane Yolen does a good job of leaving people on the edge of their seats trying to figure it out. ( )

Every child and even adults like mysteries, they are exciting and putting clues together is enjoyable. I really liked how the book interacted the the reader. I also enjoyed how everynow and then it had notes and definitions of words. The story of the wolf girls was never solved and i think that if it had been solved it would have taken away from the book. The reader is allowed to imagine and think about what might have been the truth about the girls. I liked how at the end of the book the author decided to ask questions and give the different options regarding the different stories told about the girls. From what i know. feral children have existed and some of them never really learn how to act like a normal human child. There have been instances where a child was found in the woods or out in nature with animals. There is a possibility that the girls could have been raised by wolves. ( )

An interactive and different view of reading about the wolf girls of India. The journal says one thing while accounts say another. The poor girls were practically side show celebrities. I like the fact that it acts as a detective piece, making the reader question the truth. ( )

The wolf girls by Jane Yolen and Heidi Elisabet Yolen Stemple is a book about a mystery that has never been solved. Throughout the story, on what seem to be “post it notes”, are vocabulary that readers may not know the meaning of. The narrator includes questions for the reader to answer. In the story there are many given theories as to what really happened to the two Indian girls, age 8 and 2, but the author does not let it be known what she believed happened. The story ends with the narrator saying she's really not sure which theory is correct but she has her own of what had happened and says she hopes the reader does as well. I would have to admit I am not use to seeing books written in this format and since I am a huge fan of mysteries, I loved this story. It was unique in every aspect. It challenge’s children to think and use their imagination. The setting effects the story because solving a mystery one must think of all aspects. How were women raised in India? Did they abandon their children often in India? Those all depend on the setting. ( )
