The idea of a DC Universe without Oracle is already hard enough for me to stomach; the thought of a new Birds of Prey incarnation hurts. But, I decided to give it a try (it was on sale). It wasn't perfect, but it didn't suck. (Thank god it did not suck.) The plot was pretty damn twisty and entertaining. This title is a lot darker than I expected, but then, it's a new Birds of Prey made up of criminals. Also, I realized I probably should catch up on the New 52, just in time for Rebirth. Guh. Stupid comics, retconning everything. Also, I really appreciated that for an all-female team, the art was never exploitative. Even Starling, with her bustier outfit, was never shown in a provocative pose or in that weird spine-contorting boobs-and-ass twist. (The one exception is one of the issue covers, which was awful. Just... awful. The artist had no clue how boobs worked, and Katana's just looked ridiculous.) I'm intrigued. I wished that the writing wasn't so plot-focused because I really wanted to learn more about the characters. This isn't the Dinah Lance I know, nor the Poison Ivy. Since this is the first story arc in a new series, I had expected more background. Instead, we're dropped into what felt like an ongoing story - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just a bit weird. Quick impression: Good plot, but not great. Starts leaving readers with questions, ends with a cliffhanger, and not many if any questions answered. And if you are a new reader, though this is a "New 52" title, you may need to research the characters a bit or read previous stories to get the full picture. (Full review in my blog later) The deal about this book is that the story is pretty good,it might not be [a:Duane Swierczynski|97136|Duane Swierczynski|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1295200267p2/97136.jpg]'s best but it still pretty good. The art is also fine, nothing spectacular, but certainly up to modern comic standards. The problem is that they really don't support each other. A really good graphic novel needs both art and words to carry the story, and this book doesn't need the art. It is a fine read, just not a great one. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
One is wanted for a murder she didn't commit. The other is on the run because she knows too much. They are Dinah Laurel Lance and Ev Crawford - a.k.a. Black Canary and Starling - and joining them are the villainous Poison Ivy and the heroic Batgirl and together, as Gotham City's covert ops team, they're taking down the villains other heroes can't touch. They are the Birds of Prey. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
