The dazzling wedding fashions of A Lady's Favor dress shop are guaranteed to make any girl the talk of the ton. But the brides aren't the only ones falling in love... With her parents murdered and her inheritance stolen, all Penny Shoemaker has left is her job designing handcrafted shoes for A Lady's Favor dress shop. But that's not enough for her to support herself or her young brother. Her only chance to regain what is rightfully hers rests with a strange but brilliant gent with a weakness for damsels in distress. Samuel Morrison is a dispossessed younger son searching for his place in the world. When Penny's predicament literally lands at his feet, he sets his keen detective skills to solving her mystery. But she fills more than his time--she fills his heart. How can a lost man solve the mystery, win the girl, and create a life not only for himself, but for her as well? The answer may be just a favor away...… (mehr)

From the reviews I was expecting something a lot better. I enjoy Regency. This I didn't. It never came together and except for the setting in time, it wasn't a Regency. It ignored everything about the Regency era. I wouldn't even call it historical. It was contemporary slammed into a historical setting. Well at least she didn't have the hero ringing up Prinny for a bite to eat.

You had a hero who sounded a lot like a shallow bored Sherlock Holmes without any of the endearing qualities that make Sherlock, Sherlock. He suddenly decides he wants to give the girl the best and proceeds to vanish until the end of the book. Then deus ex machina with little development and no work on the part of the author to develop a plot, the problem for the girl is solved! Then the hero comes trudging back in from solving something major somewhere else which we poor readers are never burdened with except for him babbling how he "solved the crime"

The girl goes from being this angry twit to be an all understand woman full of caring and understanding because she found the love of a good man. [cut me a break here. this has been so over used. Get her a lay and she's fine. Don't women realize what this is saying about them?]

She does very little except have "romantic encounters" with the hero meanwhile protesting she is a good girl. She takes care of a younger brother who isn't but we never get the full story on that either. She has major anger issues and is on the edge of acting in a violent manner most of the time [until she gets laid] but she would never hurt the baby. Right. Heard that before from some of my inmates too... right before they drowned the kid in the bathtub.

She just needs a good man and to be fulfilled as a woman to have everything work out and as soon as she decides she does, the hero vanishes, the plot gets fixed and they live happily ever after.

Cut me a break here ok?

It fuzzles around, tries to be a plot and just never quite makes it but it has some interesting character sketches that had they been developed right, it would have been a very good book. ( )
