Three former CIA officers-among the world's foremost authorities on recognizing deceptive behavior-share their proven techniques for uncovering a lieâ?¦ Imagine how different your life would be if you could tell whether someone was lying or telling you the truth. Be it hiring a new employee, investing in a financial interest, speaking with your child about drugs, confronting your significant other about suspected infidelity, or even dating someone new, having the ability to unmask a lie can have far-reaching and even life-altering consequences. As former CIA officers, Philip Houston, Michael Floyd, and Susan Carnicero are among the world's best at recognizing deceptive behavior. Spy the Lie chronicles the captivating story of how they used a methodology Houston developed to detect deception in the counterterrorism and criminal investigation realms, and shows how these techniques can be applied in our daily lives. Through fascinating anecdotes from their intelligence careers, the authors teach readers how to recognize deceptive behaviors, both verbal and nonverbal, that we all tend to display when we respond to questions untruthfully. For the first time, they share with the general public their methodology and their secrets to the art of asking questions that elicit the truth. Spy the Lie is a game-changer. In the interest of time, I refer you to Max's August 17, 2012 review which I think sums up this book quite well, e.g.,
"This book was a good introduction to finding deception in interviews. It discusses what lies sound like, and what they look like in terms of body language. The information was simple to understand, and they have good practical examples." ( )

Great book! This is an excellent book for anyone dealing with people/staff on a regular basis. As a pastor I would encourage other pastors and Church leaders to read and use the information in the examination of potential

Employees. The glossary is a tremendous resource as well as the Sandusky interview. While the book doesn't make one an expert in lie detection it certainly helps in knowing what we should look for as leaders of congregations. ( )

Never be duped again. Probably.

The writing is horrible. It's repetitive. But it is absolutely fascinating and a must read. They do try to tell interesting stories but fail miserably.

But the information they impart is life changing. Your ability to confidently identify lies will go through the roof. (sadly, so will your ability to lie) With great power comes great responsibility.

You should read this if you want to really learn when you are being lied to. ( )

"Remember, Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen." ( )
