Rough Surrender is my first forage into Cari Silverwood, and it's definitely not the last. She usually does contemporary BDSM erotica or steampunkish one, so this historical fiction/erotica with strong BDSM elements is a fluke for her. And it's gorgeous. Great story, insane chemistry between main characters and a really atmospheric setting. This is one of the books where you wish it wouldn't have ended so soon. I've never read anything like it and it left quite an impression. Faith is a thrill-seeker, a woman who wants to fly at a time when aircrafts are unsafe and dangerous. In Egypt lies her ultimate dream; her own aircraft and a chance to fly at a massive expo. However, things don’t seem to be going to plan when the engine of her craft fails to arrive in Egypt. Whilst trying to discover what has gone amiss, she comes across Leonhardt, a man with an intriguing arrogance and a tortured past. Leonhardts sexual tastes have always been kinky and, in the past, he has had to use brothels to get satisfaction. Ever since he failed to save a woman who was whipped to death by a cruel man wearing the guise of a sadist, he has never stepped foot into a whore house. When he meets Faith, she intrigues him with her forthright ways and sparky attitude. When she seems to respond to his rougher touches, he can’t quite believe his luck. Is it possible he has found his ideal match? He convinces Faith to give him some time to prove that they could be married. When the corpses of young women start to appear alongside the reappearance of a very cruel man, Leonhardt convinces Faith to stay safe in his home. It is not seemly, not proper, but she can’t seem to stay away from the man who has taken such thorough control of her body. If only Leonhardt can also convince her against taking to the skies, he would be an exceptionally happy man.... Cari Silverwood has done it again because this is another fabulous book. With a Dom who isn’t afraid to stake his claim, a feisty woman who isn’t afraid to take risks and a backdrop of Egypt in the early 1900’s, I was hooked from start to end. I love the fact her books are always a little different and I find the world she creates compelling. I do hope this isn’t a stand-alone! I liked Faith as a character. She is a virgin at the start of the tale, which I thought was a brave stance to take in a BDSM book. However, because of her adventurous character and no-holds barred attitude, I believed that she wouldn’t be afraid of her own reactions towards Leonhardts kinkier side. She wants to be offended when he writes his name on her skin, but really she craves that kind of mastery. She doesn’t shy away from anything he wants to show her, trusting him not to hurt her. I thought she was a perfect heroine for this story. Leonhardt is AWESOME as a Dom. He is a right kinky bastard but he is also so sensitive to her naivety that he doesn’t push her. I didn’t agree with some of his actions with regards to the flying (you’ll see) but I understood his need to protect. He had no qualms about expressing his feelings towards Faith, never allowing any misunderstandings to be made about his intentions towards her. The Dom side of him was amazing. The man proved his mastery with pens, ropes, dildos, inside a bedroom, outside the house and on giant propellers.....seriously, it was out of this world. My only complaint was about where the book ended....seriously Cari? That was cruel :D The backdrop to this tale is one of murder and abuse of power. It gave the whole story a very tense feeling and made it a little darker...it was perfect, although it was never hidden who the killer was. A historical tale of Domination and submission with whatever implements happen to be handy. I loved every second of it....Leonhardt can write his name on my arse-cheek any day (well, if he was real...) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
One master, one woman who craves surrender, and a sky that will challenge them both. At a time when airplanes are as new-fangled and sensational as the telephone, Faith dares to fly. The one territory she has not explored is her own sexuality. In Leonhardt she discovers a man who can teach her how a woman surrenders her body and her mind. But Leonhardt has a shadowed past and his own learning to do, and he doesn't have the right to keep Faith from flying, even if he thinks airplanes are flimsy death-traps made of canvas, timber and their inventor's prayers. Faith has her limits, Leonhardt has his flaws, and sometimes the nicest people get murdered by unscrupulous bastards. Even if Leonhardt can save the woman he loves, the battle for Faith's heart will be the hardest one of all. This is a re-release of a book previously published by Pan Macmillan. I really enjoyed this one.
There were areas that made me laugh out loud.
"I thought it best to put our ten-day agreement in writing, so you couldn’t deny it.” He was writing on her bottom?" Yes, yes he was. He was writing their agreement on her butt!
'Note to Self'; Read more of Cari's books!
