Age Appropriateness:
Review: This book is about a young boy who makes crazy food dishes and loves them. His sisters tells him that his food is so gross and that no one in the universe would eat it and like it. So, the young boy decides to put up a stand and sell his food. During the day no one comes and buys his food, but when he is asleep aliens stop by and wake him up and buy his food.
Critique: This is a good science fiction book because it is about a boy who makes crazy inventions with food and ends up selling them to aliens. Aliens and people do not interact nor do aliens exist, and this could not happen in real life, which makes it a good science fiction book.

Cute story about about a boy who loves to make different types of food. He ends up cooking of aliens who actually like his food.

Summary:
There is a little boy and he loves to create his own (gross) recipes by mixing and making different snacks. His older sister tries her best to discourage him. He finds out that aliens have come to try his different snacks. He makes different snacks that match different aliens, such as toothpaste soup for an alien with many large teeth. The aliens love his snacks all summer until the last night he makes a snack. He makes "galactic pudding" and the aliens hate it. He finally gives up and says maybe his sister was right and no one else would like his snacks. The book ends with his sister secretly eating his pudding.

Personal reaction:
This was a very cute book. The illustration and story were both adorable! My daughter loved it! She likes to mix ingredients as well and make anything that I will allow her to.

Classroom extension ideas:
1. This book would be great for reading around a time making healthy snacks or even having the students be able to make their own snacks or (galactic pudding).
2. This book could help students understand it's ok to be different and sometimes people may say they do not like certain things or people, but really they do.
3. We could make a classroom book about aliens and what they like to eat, having each student draw their own alien and make up their own snack for the aliens to eat.

Swiss cheese donut holes? Turnip-side-down cake? Sponge cake with leeks? Who would eat such things?! Aliens of course! Opening up a summer snack stand, this young boy’s stand is a hit for aliens, with these signature dishes. But will these aliens eat anything he creates? You’ll have to read this silly story to find out. Kids, kindergarten to third grade, will laugh at how disgusting the snacks this boy creates are. -Shannon ( )
