I loved the book, Good Night Little Rainbow Fish, because it filled me with nostalgia from when I was younger reading the original Rainbow Fish book. This book had really great plot organization and pace. Little Rainbow Fish would make up possible scenarios in his head and his mother would always have a solution to his small little problems. "'And suppose I lose my way in an octopus's cloud of ink?' 'Then I'll search for you, blow away the black cloud, and take you home.'... 'And suppose I get caught in the arms of a poisonous jellyfish?' 'Then I'll nurse you until you're well again and the jelly fish will get a nasty surprise.'" The book is organized that each time little rainbow fish thinks of an alternate event, the mother comes up with an answer that's all about supporting and nurturing her son. This book follows a problem/solution format every two pages and in the end there's always a solution to the little fish's problems.
The illustrations in this book are also amazing. The rainbow fish are shown with multicolored scales as well as scales with glitter on them, just like the original Rainbow Fish. The colors behind what is being focused on in each picture appear almost like a watercolor array. Throughout the book, there are lots of cool colors; blue, greens and purples. Each illustration represents all of little rainbow fish's made up scenarios effectively (i.e. an enormous octopus and the little fish surrounded by it's ink cloud, followed by the mom blowing the cloud away). These illustrations help enhance all of the words and scenarios little fish comes up with. The main message of the book is that no matter what comes your way, your mom or other close family member will always be there to support you and keep you calm. ( )

Beautifully illustrated book with vivid colors. The mother fish gently guides her little rainbow fish to overcome his fears of the dark and trouble sleeping through encouragement. She shows her rainbow fish that she will be right there to protect him no matter what through her gentle words of love and promises to care from him always. ( )
