In Isabella Austin Evangelista's life miracles never happen... she knows she's destined to be the princess who's stuck in the middle of a fairytale where there will be no happily ever after. Once upon a time, Prentice Cameron loved Isabella Austin until he discovered she was a spoiled, rich girl who spent her summers toying with his heart. Life led Prentice to his own fairytale, the love of the full-of-life Fiona Sawyer. That being so, that fairytale was torn away when Fiona died of a brain tumor leaving Prentice with a house to keep clean, piles of laundry to be done, a business to run and two children who were getting tired of takeaway. But Isabella comes back to Prentice's tiny fishing town and she sweeps into his children's lives like a beautiful, well-dressed fairy godmother who bakes exquisite chocolate cakes and gives the perfect manicure to six year old girls. Then Prentice finds out Isabella's soul destroying secrets, secrets that explain why she left him so many...… (mehr)

This was basically good and readable but there were ultimately some things that didn't work as well for me as they could have. I didn't love the heroine. Everyone kept talking about how tragic her life had been. Granted finding your mother after her suicide was bad but most of the rest of her life wasn't all that horrible. Her father hit her but not often and it involved slaps. I'm not saying that's right I'm just saying it's not tragic The biggest thing I had against her is that as a rich college student how could she have let her father control her to such as extent? Grow a spine you ninny. The more I write, the less patience I have with her poor me ness. She let her father tell her who not to and who to marry. Then when her marriage is bad, she sticks with it. Come on girl, your mother left you 48 million dollars. You don't need him. Then when you can't have kids you don't adopt in the ten years or so since your divorce. Again, rich girl?

The hero is just as bad, not going after her. The dead wife's ghost just kind of kept me from really getting in to the relationship between the H/h.

Eh, decent. ( )

This book took me a lot longer than normal to get invested in the story. Once I finally did I enjoyed it. The characters, once they reconnected were delightful. Surprising twist at the end. ( )

Prentice and Elle.
It's a bit odd having his dead wife watching their relationship develops.

Twenty years ago Prestice and Elle were engaged, something caused a change in Elle and she broke it off with him breaking his heart. She returns 20 years later for her best friend's wedding facing the animosity of not only Prentice but the villagers who also felt betrayed. Fiona, Prentice's dead wife haunts the family and quickly goes from against Elle to doing everything she can to keep these two together. Elle's a runner and Prentice isn't good with second chances but events keep throwing them back together.

This book was a little different from the previous ghost stories. I liked the idea of a ghostly fairy godmother. It was very sweet. ( )
