Originally self-published in 2012, this new, definitive version has been updated and revised by the author and published by Untreed Reads. Ever since the dawn of days, rumors about the Diary of Lucifer echoed throughout Elysium. Hidden from all human knowledge, the Diary was kept a secret, locked away in the small village of Agalmath. Isaac and Demetre find themselves in a dangerous journey as they uncover the truth about the Diary and its guardians. However, for Isaac and Demetre, danger lies at every step, hidden in the most unexpected places. Hunted by the Nephilins and the Fallen Stars, they must find others who will join them in the battle against the coming darkness. Thus begins Whispers of the Fallen, a new series of epic fantasy for readers of all ages."… (mehr)

The overwhelming reason that I did not like this book was the writing, though the story was very interesting.

The writing itself was clunky and it felt like the author was just thumbing through a thesaurus to see how many adjectives he could shove into the sentences. There were some sentences that flowed really well, but were then followed by what looked like an eighth grader's English class project.

There were some scenes that just did not connect well with preceding ones, causing me to be thrown out of the story and wonder what was going on for a second.

Another point of dislike is how the dialogue felt way too formal for casual conversation between characters who are familiar with each other and how in some cases, the words used (though technically used correctly in a grammatical sense) felt wrong.

Though the premise seemed interesting, and was the reason I bought the book and its sequels, I was extremely disappointed in its execution and will not be continuing on with the series. ( )

This book strikes me as something a very inexperienced author wrote. I won't write off Netto because he definitely has ideas that are interesting, I was excited for this book based off a little blurb, but his writing needs more emotion and flow, the pacing was a little weird, and the dialogue a little awkward. Hopefully with a little more experience his writing style will match his imagination.

I never thought I was going to enjoy a book like this. It took me a lot of time to pick up this book and I finally did for the Rebellion blog tour, thinking that since everyone was reading it, I should too. I actually enjoyed the book a lot. One of the few books I have read, to be honest, one of two books (Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki being one) I have read that have unique stories. It is good when authors take such risks to deliver a striking story, like this one.

One of the things I enjoyed reading when I started the book was the bond and the friendship that Isaac and Demetre have—so close and caring for one another, no matter the circumstances. I found the information concerning the diary quite impressive, considering it is something new, something unheard of and to see it in a book and read about it, was shocking and powerful.

I want to mention so many things about this book but everything will lead to a spoiler and that is the last thing I want to do so I will keep this one short. For my Rebellion review I will try and write more without giving spoilers (that will be an eventful and difficult task). All in all, I enjoyed reading this book, even though it would give me the creeps at times. Just one minor detail that doesn't let me give the five stars (I give it 4.5 stars) is how Isaac and Demetre talk. They are teenagers. I don’t get why they talk like an adult, in the sense that they give away too much, instead of being like a normal teenager that cuts off almost a whole sentence. I like that they were cordial but I think it went overboard a little. That is my only complaint. ( )
