This books tells the story of a boy spending all day fishing with his grandpa. Counting friends and other things they come across. Though they fish all day they do not catch anything until the end of the day they seem to have fun all day. In the end the little boy catches the fish he does not want to keep it so they throw it back and head home. To go out fishing again the next day. This book has counting in a real life way. This is a good way to show kids that numbers are all around them. The illustrations are painted and very realistic adding to the realistic feeling of the book. ( )

This book has some beautiful and poignant artwork. With age appropriate text it would make a wonderful read for school age students. Unfortunately, the text is sparse and will be largely meaningless for the intended Pre-K audience without a curriculum that explains it or personal experience of fishing. ( )
