Intrigue

Somehow even after thirteen installments, Daniel Silva manages to not only continue to evolve the character of Gabriel Allon, he continues to surround him with even more interesting cohorts. I must admit that I was starting to feel in this one that I could see where the story was going before the midpoint. That things might be getting a bit repetitive. NOPE! Silva takes a side road at just the right time and gives us a unique angle on his deeply constructed protagonist. We also get a conclusion that ensures upcoming installments will take us on all new adventures with our favorite art restoring super spy. Well done. ( )

This book was a slight departure from the usual Gabriel Allon book, as he didn't work directly for Israel in this one, but more for Great Britain, or to be more exact, for the Prime Minister. I enjoyed the book at least as much as the others I've read, maybe slightly more - because of the goat. There were scenes with a goat that brought out the personalities of Gabriel and his wife in a pretty funny way, and perhaps in a somewhat Jewish way, but I'm not sure about that; it's hard to nail down Jewish humor, but this seemed to me to fit.
