Take me to the castle was a very well written historical romance novel. I really enjoyed reading the history portion and learned many things about how the world was before and after the fall of the Berlin wall. I was too young to really remember that. The romance portion was very mild and this book is very close to being a drama versus a romance. I would recommend reading this story! ( )

“Take Me to the Castle” by F. C. Malby is a romance with historical fiction and politics all rolled in together. The setting is in Europe in the 1970s and the 1980s during political changes and so much turmoil. People were crusading through their own regimens to be able to go free with marches that were hazardous to the point of being arrested.

The story gives you a view of the communism and how it affected families. The first part of the story is kind of a slow start. It is, however, the settings put into place to understand the rest of the story. Without it, it would be pointless to read as you would not understand the book and its meaning.

During the communism fall there is betrayal of life. There is a need for redemption in the aftermath of the communism that is held throughout the political turmoil taking place. No one can be trusted. Even those that you thought you knew cannot be trusted. Everyone becomes a stranger.

There are historical events tied in with personal stories that make this one good read. A heartbreaking tale of deception and distrust, it brings the question, “What would you do to secure your own freedom?

I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. The thing that fascinated me most about this book is the vivid description of the recent history of quiet revolutions in Europe, in particular, the Czech Republic. The story revolves around Jana, who is coming to terms with the changes all around her and a recent personal loss. This is life during the fall of Communism. How far will citizens go to keep and protect their newly found freedom? Through this book, we follow Jana as she travels in this new world, finding distrust and dishonesty in fellow citizens who recently trusted no one in the regime. The plot of this story is intriguing and managed to grab me from the very beginning. I knew very little about the era and the country or culture, and now am determined to find out more about this historic time. The author managed to convey to me a sense of what had happened and what was happening, with an eye to the future of this country. If the reader wants to find out more about this slice of history while enjoying a good read, this is a good place to start. I am glad I started here. ( )

I enjoyed this book even though i found it was easy to put down. I found at times the descriptive writing style distracted me even though it gave a good sense of the setting and culture, especially for the turmoil of the times. ( )

History and politic are hidden within this love story. It's a great inside what people were and are thinking during the turmoil of the political changes in Europe in the 70s and 80s. As an European I was always impressed how people from the eastern part were crusading against their regimes with silent marches also hazarding the consequences to be arrested for their desire to be free.

Jana the main character of the story is struggling with the past and the future. She made a predication which is already overhauled by the present:
How could human nature be so vile? Would this happen again, further on in history, to different people groups and nations? Was this the beginning of further brutality? Where had it begun? Jana was feaful that an end to the communist regime might give rise to too much freedom and leave people open the perils of some other individual or regime - one that would sweep in and change the world around them with new and dangerous ideologies.
