This book captures a father son relationship, which makes readers think about the importance of family. I liked this book for three reasons. First, I liked how the book was written, it was engaging and it was paced well. From the beginning it is shown that Alex, a young boy, wants to go to work with his father. “Take me with you,” whispers Alex. “Not tonight,” said Papa. Initially the start of the book keeps you thinking if Alex’s father will allow Alex to attend work with him one night. Finally, one night Alex’s Papa had a surprise for him. He gave Alex a hard hat and said, “Come on”. Second, the illustrations perfectly fit the written text and enhanced the story. The colorful paintings allow the reader to see the experience Alex and his father have at the construction site late at night. The big machines, the trucks and all the workers with hard hats on makes the construction site come alive. Lastly, I loved how family played into this book. Alex inspires to be just like his father and wants to be a construction worker one day too. While Alex was helping his father with his work at the construction site he said, “I’m a night worker, too”. This shows that Alex wants to follow in his father footsteps. The main idea of this book is the job of a construction worker and the relationship that a father and son have. ( )

The Night Worker is a story about a boy whose father works nights on a construction crew. The boy longs to go with his father but he always says no. Then one night his father asks him to come along. They put on their hard hats and off they go. The boy has a great time watch all the large construction vehicles as they work through the night. The next day the boy sleeps away, making up for his night at work with his father.

This was a book that my son picked out from the library. He loved the cover of the father with the son on his back and both wearing brightly colored hard hats.

This book would be great when learning about community helpers. There is good detail about their work and what it means for us. The father in this book is called Papa and both have dark hair and skin so I believe they may be hispanic. This book could be used as a multicultural reading.

I loved this book. This book was about a son who wanted to go to work with his father who was an enginner that worked at night. One night the dad decided to take the son with him and he got see all the things that his dad did. Some things that the dad worked with where cement workers, cranes, excavator and many more. It concludes with taking Alex (the child) home and him dreaming about going back to work with his dad. ( )

K-2. This story is about a little boy named Alex who visits his dad at work and learns about all he does. He gets to experience some of the things his dad and other workers have to get done at work so his visit to his dad's work was an exciting thing for him. This experience will probably inspire him to what he may want to do someday as an adult.
