Captain Josie Corsino has selected Kyle Richards, a trusted and talented sergeant, to supervise a burglary task force in Hollywood division. While working that special detail, Richards is involved in a fatal shooting. He's reluctant to be candid about his relationship with the man he killed, and that leads not only to uncovering his mysterious past but exposing Josie's division to notoriety and a fiery assault. As detectives investigate the shooting, Josie's loyalty to her sergeant is second-guessed by her bureau chief, civil rights activists, and even a few of her police officers. Was the shooting justified, or did Sergeant Richards have another reason for killing the unlikely burglary suspect? Before that question can be answered, there's a brutal murder in Hollywood in which Richards appears to be the most likely suspect. Josie wants to support her sergeant but finds herself questioning his actions and his motives. Josie joins forces with Detective Red Behan and Lieutenant Marge Bailey to help solve the murder and determine if there is a link between the man Richards shot and the homicide victim. The trail leads from a boxing gym in east Los Angeles to LAPD's office of the chief of police and finally back to Hollywood, where Josie discovers corrupt cops thriving within her police station. At home, Josie is becoming impatient and distant with her husband and her son, who continue to make demands on her time. She also finds herself drawn to Sergeant Richards, creating even greater domestic turmoil.… (mehr)

After a cop shoots another cop in a burglary sting, Josie Corsino must find out if it was a honest shoot or if there is more to the story.

I couldn't connect with the characters or the story until the very end. It seemed to me that the author 'told' me what was going on and who the characters were instead of letting the story open up and tell me. I finally started to get into the story and then the book was over. Her personal side was distracting too. It seemed like it was added on for filler and didn't add to the story at all. ( )

A decent police procedural that begins with the shooting of a suspended black police officer by a white police officer investigating a string of burglaries in LA. As with her other LA police novels, Dial does a nice job of showing the inner workings of the police while trying determine whether the shooting was a clean shoot -- or something much more. ( )

The twist and turns of this book kept me involved. Interested to see what else this author will do. ( )

I received this book through Early Reviewers giveaway. The premise of this book is a cop is shot dead by another cop and his captain must investigate why the dead cop was out in the alley late at night. What turns out is a bunch of twists and turns and tons of lies and deceit. I thought this book was okay.

Dead Wrong was right for me. Combining an intricate murder case and an intimate family story moved the book along quickly. To it's credit the book portrays problems seemingly unsolvable at work and at home for Police Captain Josie Corsino. Then, somehow, presents an acceptable solution to both. Corsinio, no traditional hero, faces a good part of life with distain for the shortcomings of others. Yet in her own somewhat distant fashion supports the people surrounding her. Most amusing is her take on her sons older, shorter girl friend. A stong person, Corsino gives a steady hand to the unraveling of the story line. I was found sleeping when I picked the wrong killer. Worth the read. ( )
