I don't want to say the wrong thing or have this be longer than it needs to. So I am just going to answer the simple question of what I thought. The essay was extremely well written. In the past, the only essays I have read were Buffy related, so this was a nice change of pace. ( ) I took away one star because while I agree that reasonable limitations need to be set on the availability and types of firearms that one is allowed to lawfully own, I believe that any attempt to lessen gun violence needs to also address the deplorable state of mental health care in this country. Automatic weapons become vastly more dangerous when they are in the hands of mentally ill and violent people. That is the nexus that needs to be addressed. Balanced and still relevant I went into this expecting a very liberal argument for strict gun control like maybe banning gun ownership, but what I got was a common sense argument for additions to existing gun restrictions. King uses the real example of gun restrictions in Australia to show that limiting the types of weapons people can buy can have a dramatic impact on the number of gun-related deaths. This is about a 30 to 45 minute read from a middle perspective on gun ownership in the US. I recommend it, and if you have Amazon Prime, you can read it for free with Prime Reading. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.King's earnings from the sale of this essay will go to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.Stephen King is the author of 11/22/63, Under the Dome, Carrie, The Shining, and many other bestselling works.
