Dick's suit looks like it is metal or plastic. In earlier books he even refers to it as armor. But in some scuffling tears occur, exactly like cloth, and he refers to them as tears. At some point, he unzips the costume right down the front...does Wayne Enterprises have some super hidden zipper tech? ( )

Dick Grayson, also known as Nightwing, doesn't have time to recuperate from his ordeal with Haly's circus. Batman sends out an appeal for help against the Court of Owls, and Nightwing does his part by trying to save the lives of several important officials. He arrives in time to save one of the two, and is engaged in a fight with the same Talon that Batman had incapacitated and kept in his bat cave. During the course of the fight, the reader learns about the personal history of this particular talon, decades earlier, and how his choices created the Grayson family. His hostility towards Nightwing, then, is more than just that for an impersonal opponent, but because he feels that Dick has betrayed his heritage. Despite his arrogance, Nightwing does win, helping rid the city of Talons.

And is immediately embroiled in another problem. Two men were murdered with his escrima sticks. Despite Nightwing's history of helping the city, the police consider him their top suspect; now Nightwing needs to investigate the murder and clear his name. His sleuthing leads him to a new group of crazy fanatics in Gotham, the Republic of Tomorrow. Their leader, Paragon, has targeted Nightwing as a corrupt idol who must fall. The rest of this volume deals with Nightwing's battle against Paragon, while in his few spare moments, he tries to make Gotham a better place by reopening an abandoned fair ground.

I enjoy this series. I have been randomly sampling DC comics off and on, and of all those that I have read, my favorites are definitely Nightwing and Batman. What can I say? I love those Gotham characters. Dick Grayson has been one of my superhero darlings since I watched Batman: The Animated Series as a kid. In this collection of issues, he unravels a mystery that is not too complex but still entertaining, is attracted to yet another beautiful woman, and has awesome battle scenes. The story lines here are more compelling than those of a lot of the other comics, and the characters are great. This is one series that is going to stick around in my reading options for a while. ( )

An okay read, but probably a bad sign that the villain(s) are much more interesting than the main character. ( )
