I don't know if I'm misunderstanding the assignment for the week or what, but instead of finding things for students to use as writing models in just the text, I'm finding that in the illustrations, too... almost as if they go hand in hand. With this book the words are there, but it's really the illustrations that tell the story. I love this for introducing shapes, though! I flagged this one to use in my future classroom, too. ( )

This book would be a great introduction to learning shapes in a math class while also tying a sweet message of love to the teacher's students. The book starts off by showing the shape of what people look like, then explains the shapes of different objects in our world, and ends up sharing the best shape of all which is the shape of a heart. This book brought a warm feeling to my heart and I hope I can share this with my students one day. I hope that they will learn about all of the different shapes around the world while gaining the feeling of security and love from me as their teacher. ( )

I really liked this book because the pictures were very big and vibrant. The way the illustrator drew the pictures make them "pop" put of the book and immediately gets your attention. It goes through a typical day of a child or person and points out the different shapes that one may see. It has a very happy and warm vibe to it. Also, I really love how there a little extra side notes next to certain pictures. For example, on the animals page, next to the penguin it says "flap! flap!," to portray the sound that may come from a penguin by flapping its wings. The overall idea of this book was to inform children about all of the shapes that are around them everyday so that they can observe and comprehend after reading this book. ( )

A great book not just for learning shapes but for examining the relationship between a mother and a son. An absolutely wonderful story. ( )
