Probably should have read the previous book, Artic Star, beforehand as this latest case linked to it. In the event I read Artic Star, well, the villain of the story has been spoiled. Beyond that, took me a while to enjoy this mystery. ( )

This was enjoyable, however, I did guess the culprit correctly. As I mentioned in my review of the first one, this book felt more like a part of a story due to the author breaking one trip in half. Unfortunately, this lessened my experience but this was still an enjoyable read. ( )

The second book in the Nancy Drew Diaries collection picks up partway through the luxury cruise. First of all, I would love to be a passenger on The Arctic Star, staying in a snazzy suite, exploring, and viewing wildlife in Alaska. This book should definitely be read after the first book in the series,, as elements of the mystery were presented there and carry into this book. The list of suspects includes Nancy's fellow cruise passengers from book 1 plus some new faces. As the group boards the sleek double-decker train for the land tour portion of the trip, Nancy, Bess, and George are determined to crack the case. Nancy has a surprising Veronica Mars edge here, and the story overall feels fresh and current. I recently read The Mystery on the Blue Train by Agatha Christie's and there is something timeless about a mystery set on a train.
