"Welcome to the city of Red Wheelbarrow, where the world's greatest detective has yet to meet the crime he can't solve-- every criminal in Red Wheelbarrow is caught and convicted thanks to Detective Gould's brilliant mind and cutting-edge spy technology. But lately there has been a rash of crimes so eccentric and random that even Detective Gould is stumped. Will he discover the connection between the compulsive chair thief, the novelist who uses purloined street signs to write her magnum opus, and the photographer who secretly documents peoples' most anguished personal moments? Or will Detective Gould finally meet his match?" -- from publisher's web site.… (mehr)

Excellent. ( )

A great showcase for comics/graphic novels as a medium. Kindt layers words and images together like fine pastry chef making a towering dessert or a puzzle-maker finding the balance of challenge versus fun. This is idiosyncratic, dense storytelling that sets genre conventions spinning and uses stylization as a narrative tool. Think about Dick Tracy in the funny pages. Think about Twin Peaks on TV. Get ready for a journey to the place where art and crime blur together. ( )

And then there's this...I'm not even totally sure I understand everything that happened, but the artwork was fantastic and I liked the discussion about morality and how "truth" is defined. Really well done. ( )

At first, this appears to be short stories of strange crimes, but then they slowly start to meld together to create one heady read. ( )
