A valuable collection, within its self-imposed limits. The essays are well-focused, accessible, and written in non-technical language. For the most part, they are articulations of centrist theological insights with little that is daringly innovative. This collection will be useful to students and practitioners who want to catch a snapshot of recent scholarly discussion. Given the theme of the book, though, it is perhaps disappointing that there is not at least one essay on the general enterprise of biblical theology. This book represents first-class scholarship dealing with a very complex topic. Owing to the constraints of space, some of the articles are a bit dense; however, each article includes ample bibliography for those interested in doing further investigation.
This volume provides a comprehensive survey of the unity and diversity behind biblical conceptions of "God." This is accomplished by respecting the distinctive theology of each canonical book and by placing reflection about God in conversation with major themes of biblical theology--Christology, pneumatology, anthropology. Four essays examine the Old Testament images of God while ten essays address the way in which God is presented in the New Testament. The volume is rounded off with an essay exploring biblical preaching about God. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
