Political Correctness was a big problem when Professor Mike S. Adams arrived at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington a decade ago to teach Criminal Justice. It became an even bigger problem when the administration started calling it the "diversity movement" a few years later and set up a flurry of programs, offices and initiatives to deal with campus diversity. Throughout this book, Professor Adams argues that this movement has actually reduced the amount of diversity on campus -- and in the process has created a chaotic, out-of-control environment not unlike the Tower of Babel story in the book of Genesis that now threatens the First Admendment. Who better to write this book than Professor Adams, a former atheist and Democrat who voted for Michael Dukakis in 1988 and Bill Clinton in 1992? Since his "conversion" in 1993, Adams has become a leading voice in the conservative movement today -- not only in the classroom but on the editorial pages of www.townhall.com and other conservative publications as well. At its core, the theme of Welcome to the Ivory Tower of Babel: Confessions of a Conservative College Professor is pretty straightforward: it is simply a look at life at the modern (or postmodern) university through the eyes of a conservative college professor. That alone makes this book unique, as there are few "out of the closet" conservatives on our nation's college campuses. The title's reference to the Tower of Babel story is also a reference to the Utopian mind-set that dominates most universities today. Professor Adams places much of the blame on the failed dreams of socialism and weak university administrators who allow anarchists to ban mainstream religious practices from college campuses while approving movements such as "Queers for Christ" and feminist courses that advocate the castration of men. Irreverent and disturbing in many ways, Welcome to the Ivory Tower of Babel will have readers cheering and chortling with laughter as Adams lampoons sacred liberal cows. Welcome to the Ivory of Tower has been called one of the most important books about postmodern academia to come along in years. Readers -- especially parents -- will be shocked to learn what they're teaching our students on university campuses today! Book jacket.… (mehr)
