Kevin FitzPatrick ?s poems, in the rhythms of everyday speech, tell of family and community,. In a sequence about boyhood discoveries, escapades, and conflicts, FitzPatrick, locates the sources of curiosity and compassion. Especially he contemplates his father: his stories of wartime internment in a prison camp, his baritone voice waking a neighborhood with song on an early morning in spring, his alarming labored breathing after disciplining his rough-housing sons. FitzPatrick ?s urban settings are peopled with gas-station attendants, short-order cooks, construction workers, truck drivers, sheriffs, nurses, doctors, corporate executives, shoplifters, and unemployed men and women who sell their blood at a plasma center. Office workers struggle to create productive order our of chaos and tedious routine. A teacher breaks up a hallway fight and is surprised by a moment of fulfillment when students are eager to read a novel aloud. An ice-cube manufacturer doodles bizarre machines, while on a distant island the internal organs of the poor are harvested for transplanting into the affluent. In a world callous and corrupt, FitzPatrick nevertheless finds love and the prospect of regenerated humanity. -- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
